Self-employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) 2nd Grant Guidance

HMRC have confirmed that individuals can claim for the second and final grant even if they did not claim the first. The second grant can be claimed in August 2020 and is worth 70% of average monthly trading profits covering three months. As it is a separate claim those claiming will have to confirm their business has been adversely affected by Covid-19 on or after 14th July 2020.

HMRC’s guidance gives the following examples of when a business might be adversely affected:

  • The business owner is unable to work because they: o are shielding, o are self-isolating, o are on sick leave because of coronavirus, or o have caring responsibilities because of coronavirus.

  • The business has had to scale down or temporarily stop trading because: o the supply chain has been interrupted, o there are fewer or no customers or clients, or o staff are unable to come in to work.

The deadline for claiming the first grant remains 13th July 2020 where you have to confirm your business has been adversely affected by Covid-19 on or before 13th July 2020.
